Ecoacoustics is transforming how we explore and understand our natural world by capturing the rich soundscape of our environment, from the songs of birds and the calls of frogs to the deep bellows of koalas. We’ve built the Australian Acoustic Observatory, a continent-wide network of hundreds of autonomous sound recorders, collecting the equivalent of over a thousand years of continuous audio. In this talk, I’ll share our journey of listening to nature at scale — and how we’re harnessing the power of cloud computing and artificial intelligence to reveal the health of Australia’s ecosystems.
