Prometheus is a popular open-source monitoring and alerting system. Its initial development happened primarily at SoundCloud. The company invested in Prometheus to solve the monitoring challenges created by the migration to dynamically scheduled microservices. Back then, no open-source solution was available to solve the problems at hand. About four years ago, the regular use of Prometheus in production scenarios began. By now, Prometheus is not only the dominant monitoring and alerting system at SoundCloud, it is also used by hundreds of other organizations all over the world. This talk will showcase how drastically monitoring has changed at SoundCloud over the past years, and how that has affected every engineer's day-to-day work. **Prerequisite attendee experience level**: beginner
