Home GOTO Experts Linda Rising

Called as the "Queen of patterns". She is the author of numerous books and an internationally known presenter on topics related to patterns, retrospectives, agile development approaches, and the change process. Linda has a Ph.D. from Arizona State University in the field of object-based design metrics and a background that includes university teaching and industry work in telecommunications, avionics, and strategic weapons systems.

As the names suggest, the pattern that repeats in her work is her work with patterns! Rising has extended the use of patterns, building upon the work of Christopher Alexander on a pattern language for architecture and the work of the 'Gang of Four' on patterns for software development. Linda trains people for making 'fearless changes' in the organizations, with her community "Linda Rising LLC".

Tips from Psychology for Better Thinking

Those of us who struggle with complex problems for a living don't have time to keep up with the enormous amount of cognitive science research that could help us become better thinkers, better problem solvers, and better decision makers.

Having devoted years to researching the fast-moving fields that almost daily reveal new information, Linda shares what she has uncovered—some of it surprising, some even counterintuitive. She summarizes the research and provides concrete tips for improving your individual, team, and organizational abilities.

Most of us sit all day, believing that concentrating without moving, in a room with no natural light, drinking too much caffeine, after our usual night of less than six hours of sleep is the way to get work done. Linda offers ways to incorporate movement, take a break, change focus, brighten our environments, think better, and be happier. Learn the latest tips for boosting your power to innovate and decide.

Group Intelligence: What Science Says About the Intelligence of Groups

We know there are ways of measuring various kinds of individual intelligences. We also know that, yes, some groups seem "smarter" than others. Are there ways of measuring "group intelligence" and what does that really mean? Individual intelligence seems to be "fixed" but I, of course, believe in "growth"! What about group intelligence? Can it be improved, that is, can we make our teams "smarter"? Linda will outline the latest research with some counterintuitive suggestions, including hiring for diversity, establishing a more level conversational protocol and encouraging team members to read more fiction.
