Stop Standing Still: Increasing Cadence And Reducing Risk By Killing The Release Night

Dave Karow
Continuous Delivery Evangelist at Split
Teams that continuously flow innovation to production don't "stop everything" to perform release ceremonies anymore. They have learned to make shipping a non-event, a business as usual, day-to-day activity where deployment and release are decoupled. Changes are deployed silently. Releases are validated in place and then propagated to users or reverted with the flip of a switch. This way of shipping with increased cadence and lower risk is fast becoming the new normal and has been dubbed "progressive delivery." Teams that have gone this route have killed the release night and they don't miss it.
