Abstract

Home Assistant is an incredible tool for home automation but it can also be intimidating due to its size and complexity. In this talk, we will tell you about Home Assistant and why you should use it for you smart home, and we will guide you through the installation and setup of a brand new Home Assistant instance.

The best way to prove that something is great is to show it in use in the real world. We will therefore show our own Home Assistant setups and explain why it is useful to us. The 3 home setups we will show are very different in terms of focus and ambition, and you will be able to use these cases to build your own setup and find your own level of ambition. To help in this, we will talk about different approaches to UI in Home Assistant, as well as the different ways we have chosen to deploy our setups at home (Kubernetes, Raspberry Pi With Home Assistant OS, Home Assistant in docker).

In Trifork, we think Home Assistant is a great tool, so we decided to use it in one of our offices for automation tasks. We will show how Home Assistant also can play a role in enterprise environments and not only at home.

We love Home Assistant and have spent many hours developing the optimal setup, but you really don’t have to. In the last part of this GOTO Night, we will show a live demo of how simple it is to get something up and running.

Come join us for an evening of inspiration and geeking out, where you will learn how Home Assistant will make your life easier.
